Whew, after all those gluten free Christmas gift posts the last two weeks and the new blog redesign, I feel like it's time for me to think about someone else in the world...namely, you! Our friends at
CSN Stores are sponsoring another giveaway at Off the Wheaten Path, and if you click that link they have like a million stores that sell everything from furniture to
leather messenger bags to cookware...of course my favorite is the cookware. The timing couldn't be better for most of us. The giveaway this time is...I'm rolling the drums...
A brand new
Henckels 8" Chef's knife! That's right, if you have ever chopped vegetables with a steak knife, or if your last set of knives only has three left in the block, this giveaway is for you. I think a lot of home cooks out there underestimate the power of a good knife. It makes so many jobs easier, almost enjoyable. Like cutting cabbage for
Kielbasa, Potatoes, and Cabbage (which we are eating, nay,
dining on tonight), which used to be difficult when I didn't have my super Henckels knives from my lovely husband, er,
Santa, last year.
And my friend Mo wrote this absolutely striking essay on her love of the chop here. Good knife skills are one of the main things that sets a good cook or Home Chef, as I like to call myself, apart from the rest. Here is some great information on how to cut correctly, with links to tutorials on how to hold your knife correctly to cutting different kinds of shapes. Cutting the right way is safer and it makes the food look more appetizing. And all of this can be accomplished with one tool: A great chef's knife.
So here's what you have to do to win: Leave a comment at the bottom letting me know what your favorite part of my new blog design is! (Hey, I can make up the rules because I'm in charge. I'm orchestrating some love here.) A winner will be randomly chosen Wednesday, December 1, so that you'll have plenty of time to receive your knife before Christmas party season kicks in. Good luck and happy chopping!
I know it's a strange thing to like but I am fond of the apron that your 'self' is wearing in the header. I wouldn't mind wearing it myself. The colors are also very easy to look at and very pleasing. I like it :)

I like the colors -- green's my favorite color!
ReplyDeleteI like how clean it looks - the green titles above every section with just enough whitespace between them make it feel organized, while other blogs look a little messy there.
ReplyDeleteI think just in general I love the clean professional look of it all, and can I say i have always loved the name of you blog!
ReplyDeletePS-I really need this knife, i am a poor newlywed to a gluten-free-husband, and I use my steak knife to chop anything that needs chopped, because ikea knife dont really cut it...
I think the new look is great. Very cheerful and easy on the eye. I have just been dreaming of a new chef's knife. Mine is junk. :) Thanks for helping to ease our transition to gluten-free.
ReplyDeleteI like the whimsical "Bewitched" look. Well done. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the new look! I love that the girl is so you.... capris and you know she has a down east shirt on!
ReplyDeleteSo quick question...
there are people in the world who dont cut veggies with a steak knife?
Ha ha Mel, I want to say something funny and sarcastic and food-snobbish, like, oh what a funny hypothetical question you just asked, but I'm too busy laughing...
ReplyDeleteI knew there were folks out there who need good knives!
My favorite is the "road signs" at the top...it feels like you're leading us on the right gluten free path! I also love the overall organization and color of your new design...it feels very natural and welcoming. SO excited for the opportunity to win the Henckels...Thank you!

Whoever did the artwork is awesome and the fonts are fun and whimsical. So, the art design is my favorite part.
ReplyDeleteAnd in defense of steak knives, they do a great job slicing thick home-grown tomato skins! But I'd love to give a Henkels a try!
Whoops, spelled Henckels wrong. I guess I need to spend more time around them :)
ReplyDeleteThis website is seriously gluten-free cool beans. It's simple, clean, and awesome!!!!
ReplyDeleteClayton
I enjoy the new header!
ReplyDeleteOkay, I have two favorites! One of my favorite things is the little sign next to you that points in different directions like "Gluten Free Goodness", "Celiacs Welcome", and "Wheat Free and Yummy Too!" it's good to know that there are tasty recipes on here, because believe me, I have been through a trial and error process with other recipes and some of them are NOT pretty. It's reassuring! ha ha My other favorite part is your apron!
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite things to do is cook and an essential when I cook is my frilly, yellow, many-pocketed, lacy 50's housewife apron. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who thinks a cute apron is essential! ;)
Personally, I'm a big fan of the cropped jeans! Call me a narcissist but I'd probably go a little nuts about what my cartoon was wearing on the unveil of my site's new look. I think you totally nailed it...I only 'know' you from the blog but from your cartoon I'd guess you're a sassy chic lady who appreciates smart solutions and clean flavors. :)
ReplyDeleteps. I've been obsessed with your blog since I came across it a few months ago...my fiance just discovered he has celiacs and amidst the crazy changes and adjustments your blog has not only given me hope but a ton of laughs, appreciation and holiday gift ideas! (His dad is also a recent celiac-er!) Thank you so much!
I LOVE your blog! It's got such earthy fresh colors and such a cute animated girl. I did not know you were such an accomplished blogger! Kudos to you! Pattie M.
ReplyDeleteI didn't read the other comments so maybe someone already said this, but I LOVE that 'you' are wearing flip flops. That is sooooooooooooo YOU!
ReplyDeleteBut I also love the whole look and feel of the new blog. Great job!
I love the colors! It's so inviting!
